After picking D up from daycare and coming up close and personal with a few of the kids and there snotty noses...I just knew that wasn't a good sign! That's just not normal in the summer...snotty, crusty or runny noses is never good but in the summer...so abnormal!
Sure enough at 4 am Saturday morning our dude was not a happy camper. He simply couldn't breathe! How in the matter of hours one can become so congested they can't sleep laying down? And of course being he is the one that is still attached to his pacifier, it really upset him more when he stuck his pacifier in his mouth to find that he couldn't suck and breathe at the same time out of his mouth.
After having 3 molars pop thru earlier in the week...yes 3! I wasn't sure whether the low grade fever he had was from teething or from him coming down with a "cold". Oh and by the way those three molars...two on bottom and one on the upper left. We have watched those white mounds come thru for what seems like months!
He didn't sleep well at nap time all weekend and Saturday night was the ultimate worst! He literally didn't sleep for longer than 45 mins at a time. Right about an hour he would wake up crying. This slowly took us back to the days when he was merely weeks if not months old. It was great to cuddle with him and hold him in our arms but now that he weighs 24lbs and had a fever, it was quite uncomfortable for everyone. Of course the only way he could catch a few Zs was to sleep upright and the moment we would lay him down out came the tears and screams.
At one point on Sunday we just drove around in the car. Being the upright position was the only way he could breathe, we figured the car would put him to sleep and we could just drive around. He just couldn't fall asleep. At the end of the day I think he was so frustrated he had lack of so much sleep and what ever else was going on...just didn't end good. About 11 pm I finally told Cody to call the doctor, he is a happy baby and this was the 2nd night of craziness that was just not like him. Kicking, screaming, arching the back and just no consoling him. After Tylenol, Motrin and teething tablets nothing had worked all weekend.
Off to the doctor they went on Monday. Dr. E was out of town so we had to see the nurse practitioner...which was a very looonnng wait (much like the weekend). His ears looked good (which was a surprise) and they tested him for strep throat...which came back negative. She did say that his throat was all swollen and inflamed...and to watch him for the next 48 hrs! Are you serious...we had just spent the last 48 hrs with a sick child.
Needless to say, Monday night was a great night. He only woke up twice but we all got some much needed rest and some good sleep!
Unfortunately, when he went back to daycare today...it only took 8 hrs and he comes home with a horrid cough! Great. We shall see what this night has in store for us...I just hope he feels better soon (and not get Mommy and Daddy sick in the process).

Oh but in the process of all of this, we gave him his trusty ole pillow from when he was a baby and he loved snugglin up to it! This was taken during one of his short, sleepless nights...couldn't tell huh?
