Swing on by and have some fun, our little monkey is turning ONE!

So...the party came and went and we made it through! All the time, preparation and anxiousness came together rather nicely for our little one's first birthday party! We are thankful to all of our friends and family who were able to come and celebrate with us! We know some had plans, and others were in from out of town, and we can't thank everyone enough for making the day so special! We have lots of laughs, stories and good memories for Dylan to look back on for his very 1st birthday.

It was a rather stressful day, leading up to the event...but what mom or dad isn't or anyone for that matter when they are planning a party. We knew that this party was going to be more for us and celebrating with our friends the first year Dylan was born, only b/c he is too little to remember. So we wanted to make sure everyone was going to have fun and enjoy themselves.

Once again, I feel like we didn't get a chance to sit down for one minute to have a normal conversation with those that attended, but I sure hope you all understand. Between juggling food, cake, presents, Dylan and myself...boy we were pooped by the end of the day. Definitely a sigh of relief at the end of the day we were happy how it turned out at the same time happy and bewildered it was over with. I just couldn't believe it...we were celebrating Dylan's 1st birthday...has it been that long already? It still baffles me...it's amazing how time flies...life is too short we need to capture and savor every minute of it!

On to Dylan. We believe he had fun, he was thrilled to see something more his size in the backyard. Grandma and Grandpa Gonzo got him a play structure. It was a hit with all the older kids, too. Dylan was ecstatic about it, while inside it's like he was waving at you to come on in and join him! It was so sad, he's not just a baby anymore he is his own person that loves to share with everyone!!!
But then it was time for the cake....and oh we had no idea what we were in for! All I know is I was hoping he would get dirty, real dirty. I wanted him to play with it and get messy and just have fun...because that is what it is all about!!! In Dylan's eyes...not so much. He had a different agenda.

Here is our kid, loves food and loves attention...and what happens...we sang, he smiled. We took pictures...he smiled. We put the cake in front of him...he smiled and poked and smiled. He had a few bites...he smiled and giggled. He stuck his finger in...not so sure. Dad grabbed his other hand and pushed his hand in it....PISSED OFF!!!

It was amazing...like a light switch! I have never seen our child get so upset before and there was no calming him down until he got away from the cake and chair. He must not have liked his hands so dirty, b/c he did by the end of it have it all over him. Not because of happy reasons but because of unhappy reasons...squirming and pushing and shoving his way out of his chair.

We had to take him to the sink to rinse him off and on to outfit number 2! He calmed down, we gave him a bottle (poor thing hadn't really eaten lunch...maybe that was the problem) and he was happy. So we opted to open presents in front of everyone so they could see his reaction.

Being he is so mobile, we couldn't sit on the floor otherwise he would be long gone. So Cody held him in his lap. He showed more interest in some things more than others, but who could when you are that little with that much in front of you?

Everything and everyone winded down and slowly went home. All I know is I was wiped out, but so were the boys. They took a nap in the chair while I cleaned up the kitchen. By the time they woke up it was two hours later...yes, I was jealous!

We opened Dylan's new favorite ride from his friend Braden, the red beep beep, and delivered cake to the neighbors. Dylan loved this...if you stopped he would keep trying to scoot it forward, he wanted to go! He and daddy ended up chasing Hunter around the street...he was having a blast (even though it was well past his bedtime!)

All in all, everything went very well. We had a so much fun, Dylan did too...except for that minor but oh so terrible run in with the cake. Thanks again to everyone who attended and for making it such a fun and special day for our family, it really meant a lot to all of us! Love ya!
